Please join the Public International Law & Policy Group (PILPG) for a panel discussion on PILPG’s human rights documentation mission to investigate crimes committed against the Rohingya in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, PILPG’s legal analysis of its investigation’s findings, and considerations for justice and accountability in Myanmar.

In March and April 2018, PILPG undertook a comprehensive human rights documentation investigation mission in the refugee camps and settlement areas in Eastern Bangladesh.  The goal of this investigation was to provide an accurate accounting of the patterns of abuse and atrocity crimes committed against the Rohingya in Myanmar’s Rakhine State.  PILPG’s investigation team ultimately conducted over 1,000 interviews with Rohingya refugees, and those interviews are the basis of PILPG’s Factual Findings & Legal Analysis Report.  The Report presents the key factual findings and subsequent legal analysis of the interviews, including the patterns of violations committed against the Rohingya and recommendations for future justice and accountability efforts.

Vrije Universiteit’s Center for International Criminal Justice will be hosting the panel discussion, which will feature members of PILPG’s investigation team, Report authors, and international law experts.  The panel will discuss PILPG’s investigation mission, its factual findings, and its legal conclusion that there are reasonable grounds to believe that crimes against humanity, genocide, and war crimes were committed against the Rohingya in Myanmar’s northern Rakhine State.  The Panel will also discuss options for justice and accountability in Myanmar.
