Congres / Symposium

At Friday 7 June the VU Centre for European Legal Studies organizes a workshop about ‘Corporate Social Responsibility and production standards viewed through the lens of EU competition law’.

During the workshop there will be a discussion about EU competition law aspects of standardization agreements between competitors relating to the production of products. For example: fishing companies agreeing on industry wide targets on the ‘sustainable’ amount of fish that companies may catch, clothing companies agreeing on social criteria that suppliers need to meet and companies setting industry wide standards for environmentally friendly production. Those agreements have to be made within the limits set by EU competition law. This workshop will discuss those limits set by EU competition law, the need for reform and the possibilities for reform.

Speakers:
  • Dr. Suzanne Kingston (University College Dublin)
  • Professor Giorgio Monti (European University Institute)
  • Dr. Okeoghene Odudu (University of Cambridge)
  • Professor dr René Smits (University of Amsterdam, Dutch Competition Authority ACM)
  • Dr. Chris Townley (King’s College London)
  • Professor mr. dr. Hans Vedder (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen)
