logo ACFLThe Amsterdam Centre for Family Law (ACFL) is a multidisciplinary research center in the field of family & law. The ACFL has been founded in 2010 by researchers of the Faculty of Law, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The researchers of ACFL are experts in various areas of Dutch, comparative and European family law and in the social sciences.

An important aspiration of the ACFL is to bring together the experience of its members and create an optimal environment for combining classical legal national and comparative research as well as multidisciplinary (empirical) research. Another aspiration of the ACFL is to make a contribution to the academic debate on the development of Dutch family & law, as well as to the broader international discourse over the transformation of family & law in Europe and other countries. ACFL also strives to facilitate national and international cooperation between experts in the field of family & law.

The ACFL forms, together with the Utrecht Centre for European Research in Family Law (UCERF) and the researchers from the Groningen University, the Family & Law Alliance, that in turn participates in the Netherlands Institute for Law and Governance (NILG). The Alliance publishes the series Familie & Recht (Boom Juridische Uitgevers). The ACFL has close links with the A-LAB research institute of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
