Hein has worked as a paralegal at SOLV Attorneys after which started at VU University, first as a lecturer/researcher. Hein is also a member of the Dutch copyright association and her study group on the history of copyright law.
Hein has been a lecturer in Remix and Copyright. Currently: Copyright law, Industrial property and Intellectual property in the digital environment.
Hein Scholtens conducts research in the programme 'Public and private interests in finance and business law'.
The project Trademark Law and the Public Domain (finished) focuses on the international boundaries of trademark protection. Contributions from different regions of the world are also coordinated.
For his thesis he conducts comparative research with regard to the adaptation right and free use within European copyright law.
